In a live address, President Trump with VP Mike Pence standing behind him, kept another campaign promise and made history by officially announcing the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Per the New York Times, Trump is the first American president to take that step since the founding of Israel in 1948. Watch the video of him announcing his decision below:
JERUSALEM IS THE CAPITAL OF ISRAEL!
President Trump’s decision is considered by critics as high-risk as it could increase tensions between Palestine and Israel. But by the same token, it will appeal highly to evangelicals and pro-Israel American Jews, who were graced by the promise Trump made while campaigning in 2016. Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s citizens are likely pleasantly surprised by the announcement, however we shall wait to see how Hamas and other terrorist networks react to the news as they are likely very upset.
