It’s the 72nd annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner and it is taking place at the New York Hilton, Midtown, Thursday night October 19th. It started at 6:30 p.m. and will end around 10 pm EST. Paul Ryan (WI-R) Speaker of the House is the Keynote Speaker! And he is having a good time roasting the Washington elite. The crowd is laughing heartily too at his quips.

“The Al Smith Dinner is a fun evening, but with a serious purpose: to help those who have the least. I’m honored to be a part of this special dinner that has supported New York’s children for decades,” Speaker Ryan said upon accepting the Foundation’s invitation.

It’s typical of the keynote speaker to offer up roasting jokes. In fact, “according to the program, that encourages speakers to ‘poke fun at a political issue, an opponent, or themselves.'”  And Paul Ryan didn’t disappoint.

Here are some of the top roast’s Ryan delivered:

“I don’t think I’ve seen this many New York liberals, this many Wall Street CEOs in one room since my last visit to the White House,” Ryan chuckled as he turned his attention briefly to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “I know why Chuck has been so hard on President Trump. It’s not ideological; Chuck is just mad he lost his top donor.”

“I have  learned a lot. Like not to Tweet after midnight. Whether you’re…President… Weiner… or even Ted Cruz for that matter.”

Ryan quickly reminded the audience that Trump offended some people when he addressed the same crowd the year before. “Some said it was unbecoming of a public figure and they said that his comments were offensive. Well, thank God he’s learned his lesson.”
