A new discovery in the Antarctic Peninsula has climate change “experts” scratching their heads in disbelief and utter shock.
Recently, on an expedition in what is known as the Danger Islands off of the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, researchers found themselves caught up in a natural miracle. Video Below
According to a report by Indepedent:
A previously unknown “supercolony” of Adélie penguins has been discovered in the Antarctic, easing fears their numbers had been in decline for decades.
The thriving colony inhabits the Danger Islands, where the effects of both climate change and human activity are less pronounced than in other parts of Antarctica.
Located off the Antarctic Peninsula’s northern tip, these islands are both incredibly remote and surrounded by thick sea ice.
The thick wall of ice hid the birds from researchers, who didn’t think penguin stood a chance in the region due to their climate change theories. According to the report, over 1.5 million penguins are living on the islands – more than the rest of the Antarctic Peninsula combined. (VIDEO BELOW)
Professor Heather Lynch is quoted as saying
“Until recently, the Danger Islands weren’t known to be an important penguin habitat.”
Other researchers said they were amazed by the sheer number of birds in the region. And they were able to see them up close and count them with the help of drones. Video Below
Here is video of a penguin from the Danger Islands jumping in a research boat:
In an analysis of the incredible discovery, Professor Polito, said:
“Not only do the Danger Islands hold the largest population of Adélie penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula, they also appear to have not suffered the population declines found along the western side of Antarctic Peninsula that are associated with recent climate change.”
And penguin researcher Dr. Tom Hart said:
“It puts the east Antarctic Peninsula in stark contrast to the Adélie and chinstrap penguin declines that we are seeing on the west Antarctic Peninsula.”
“It’s not clear what the driver of those declines is yet; the candidates are climate change, fishing and direct human disturbance, but it does show the size of the problem.”
Climate change “experts,” such as former Presidential VP Al Gore, often like to point to declines in animal population as a fear mongering tactic to support their global warming theory.
But this sudden discovery of penguins will likely not throw Al Gore and other global warmers off, as they are known to twist facts in their favor. Gore already blamed one of the coldest winters experienced in America as a result of global warming. You can read more on that HERE.
