Celebrities have disgraced themselves so much over last 2 years with political rants and jabs that has turned Americans off. They’ve tweeted non-sense, been caught on camera saying or doing disgusting politically motivated things, have been subject to sexual misconduct, have used the stage of their awards shows to attack our President and all kinds of other ridiculous acts…we could go on and on.
Every action has a reaction and over time, America has sent a message to Hollywood that should be a wake up call to anyone who is part of the out-of-touch bubble. And that is: Hollywood and Politics Don’t Mix. Recently released numbers prove this statement. Check it out:
According to a report by LA Times, Hollywood box office sales have taken a hit this year. As per the LA Times:
Although movie ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada are expected to dip just below last year’s record of $11.38 billion, the number of tickets sold is projected to drop 4% to 1.26 billion — the lowest level since 1995, according to preliminary estimates from studio executives.
Here Is A Chart Courtesy of The LA Times:
In their report, The LA Times points to factors such as higher ticket prices, streaming and lack of fresh ideas as the reason for the falloff. But the one thing their report fails to mention are the scandals and severe politicization of Hollywood.
The hypocrisy and political turmoil related to Hollywood is what has likely turned many Republicans off, as they are often targeted in attacks seen out of celebrities. Celebrities fail to realize that half of Americans voted for Donald Trump and their ongoing attacks and butt-hurt seen as a result of Trump’s presidency could be what causes many Americans to not want to spend money to support their cause.
Americans have the freedom to spend their money wherever they choose. That’s the beauty of the nation we live in. If a business lashes out at something you strongly agree with or support, of course it will cause you not to want to buy anything from or support that particular company. We have seen the same thing in the NFL as a result of their kneeling controversy and declined ratings.
Here’s an example of how celebrities have attacked the President this year:
Soon after celebrity Jane Fonda was seen making these remarks about Trump at the Emmy’s, it was found out that she knew all about Harvey Weinstein’s sex misconduct while it was happening and helped keep it hidden. You can read more about it HERE.
And hypocrisy and disgust like this is likely a big contributing factor as to why box office sales are down. There are several other examples we could cite, such as Kathy Griffin’ s photo-shoot, Johnny Depp’s assassination threat or Jennifer Lawrence’s odd statements directed at Trump, but you probably get the drift we have put forth.
What do you think? Could Hollywood’s Anti-Trump/Anti-Republican behavior be hurting their sales? Comment your thoughts below and please share.
