Trump & Putin Release Joint Statements, Putin Confronts Meddling Accusations

All eyes were on President Trump and Vladimir Putin, as both leaders attended the APEC summit. The two leaders could be seen shaking hands on Friday and many wondered if the 2 would have any sort of discussion while in the same realm.

Turns out, Trump and Putin had a brief conversation, according to Reuters, and they issued joint statement, which was released by the Kremlin. Several sources also are reporting Putin discussed Russian meddling accusations with President Trump.

Per Reuters via the Kremlin, in their statement President Trump and Vladamir Putin both agreed ISIS is a threat that needs dealt with. The 2 leaders vowed to continue the fight against ISIS in Syria until the militants are completely defeated. And both countries’ leadership agree that there is no military solution to the conflict. Both leaders say they expressed a commitment to Damascus’ sovereignty.

And As for alleged meddling? President Trump said Putin told him he is “insulted” by meddling accusations. Per CNBC, Trump stated, “He says he didn’t meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times. Every time he sees me, he said: ‘I didn’t do that.’ And I believe, I really believe that when he tells me that he means it.”

Trump and Putin could be seen shaking hands prior to a Friday picture. They were both seen wearing matching silk button-down shirts, which is a tradition for the event to symbolize cooperation among world leaders. Then they were spotted chatting while they walked to a “family photograph” on Saturday.
