Sonya Carson Passed Away And Left Behind This POWERFUL Poem For America

Dr. Ben and Candy Carson left a Facebook post last evening. Dr. Ben’s mother, Sonya Carson who reared two boys in poverty and with a third grade education left a beautiful poem for the American people.

“Yourself to Blame” is the poem title and it is written by Mayme White Miller. We have the poem below along with Ben Carson’s Facebook post, where the poem was transcribed from.

Yourself To Blame

If things go bad for you
And make you a bit ashamed
Often you will find out that
You have yourself to blame

Swiftly we ran to mischief
And then the bad luck came
Why do we fault others?
We have ourselves to blame

Whatever happens to us,
Here is what we say
“Had it not been for so-and-so
Things wouldn’t have gone that way.”

And if you are short of friends,
I’ll tell you what to do
Make an examination,
You’ll find the faults in you…

You are the captain of your ship,
So agree with the same
If you travel downward
You have yourself to blame

In 2013, a film was produced on the life of Dr. Carson and how he rose from poverty to become a world reknowned brain surgeon for separating conjoined twins. In the movie his mom, Sonya, says in the Movie Gifted Hands :

“Why you always watching the TV? If you used your God given gifts then it wouldn’t be long before folks would be watching you on TV”

Her words were never more prophetic. As today he is Secretary of HUD and ran for POTUS in the 2016 Presidential run. Sonya had the opportunity to see her son on TV. And for many Americans with children struggling in school, Sonya’s words were truly wise. Reading is the source to knowledge. And knowledge opens opportunities. Sonya was right on target. Dr. Carson burst onto the political scene when he was invited to the White House for the Prayer Breakfast when he was Pediatric Neurosurgery Director at the John Hopkins Hospital. Please skip to the 7:27 minute mark to here his speech as he describes his mother’s background. An amazing woman – definitely worth the listen:

We offer our deepest condolences to the Carson family. May Sonya rest in peace. Please leave a comment below to express your support of the Carson family.

Dr. Carson, I amso sorry for your loss. Sonya was THE person most able to tell others that the situation into which you were born does not have to identify you for the rest of your life. Thank you, Sonya, for giving us Dr. Carson!

  10. My deepest sympathy in the death of your mother. She was a very wonderful woman to have raised her family alone in such a manner. You will surely miss her for a long time but she will always be in your heart and memories. I miss seeing you and I wish you and your dear family the best in the years to come.
