President Trump’s Wreath Presentation Signals a 180° Shift in Diplomacy

President Trump and First Lady, Melania Trump, visited the U.S.S Arizona memorial. “The USS Arizona Memorial is built over the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the 1,177 crewmen killed on December 7, 1941 when Japanese Naval Forces bombed Pearl Harbor. The memorial is part of World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument.”

A year ago (in 2016) former President Obama took a lot of heat for laying a wreath at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park for those killed in the world’s first atomic bombing at Hiroshima done by the US. Although he never apologized directly for the US bombing, many Americans were outraged by the symbolic meaning behind Obama’s wreath laying, since it’s argued that Japan’s surprise Pearl Harbor bombing is what eventually led the US into World War II in the first place.

President Trump laying the wreath at Pearl Harbor a year later is a clear signal that, as many already know, President Trump is completely shifting diplomatic efforts and letting the world know Obama’s “Apology Tour” is over with.
