Bob Menendez, Senator (NJ-D) is under trial for bribery and has been indicted for federal corruption charges. Fox News reported, “Bob Menendez, 63, accepted a plethora of campaign donations, gifts and vacations from Salomon Melgen, a Florida ophthalmologist. In return, Menendez used his position to lobby on behalf of Melgen’s business interests, according to prosecutors.” “Menendez, a Democrat, and Melgen are accused of trading lavish bribes — including flights on the doctor’s planes — for the senator’s intervention in the Medicare billing dispute, a foreign port security contract and the visa applications of Melgen’s foreign girlfriends” per NJ.com.
Two days ago, Marc Elias was barred from testifying in the Menendez bribery trial. Who is Marc Elias? He happens to be the same attorney who knows Podesta and has a part in the commissioning of the fake Trump dossier! Marc Elias is with the law firm, Perkins and Coie who hired and paid the russians for the dossier.
Melgen’s and Menendez’s attorneys tried to use Elias being barred to accuse the court of committing misconduct, which should result in a mistrial. Judge Walls fired back;
“We’re still buddies — but don’t try to soften the blow, if you are going to accuse the court of misconduct then I’m going to hold your feet to the fire,” Walls told Melgen’s defense attorney, Kirk Ogrosky. “This is what we call a ‘Come to Jesus’ meeting.”
“I’m not asking you to abandon rules, I’m asking you to apply them equally,” Ogrosky said at one point.
The Nj.com reported that… “the judge indicated that based on what he had heard so far, he was not inclined to grant the motion.”
No mistrial for Bob!
Interestingly, yesterday, Senator Lindsey Graham (SC-R) and Senator Cory Booker (NJ-D) both spoke to Menendez’s character during the trial.
It seems that greed, is at the base of growing corruption that seems to be predominant in the democratic party. This is the list of democrats indicted for corruption in the last 20 years.
William J. Jefferson 2009 (House of Representatives LA-D) 6 charges of corruption by a federal grand jury. Federal official bribery, wire fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and RICO. Nancy Pelosi stood up for him.
Frank Ballance 2004 (House of Representatives NC-D) Mail Fraud
James Traficant 2002 (House of Representatives OH-D) Federal official bribery and gratuity, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and RICO
As reported by Fox News: “If Menendez is convicted and goes to prison, Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., would pick a replacement. That prospect is troublesome for Democrats who fear that Christie would pick a Republican to fill the Senate seat – giving the GOP an additional edge for legislative fights. Vice President Mike Pence has said that it would be “altogether inappropriate and wrong” for a convicted felon to remain in the Senate. However, he said it would be a decision left up to the Senate if Menendez didn’t resign. Menendez is up for reelection next year. He was selected to replace former Gov. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., in the Senate in 2005.”
It seems, corruption is a part of the fabric in the democratic party. Greed seems to be the basis of a desire for money or power in politics. Americans need to be careful about who they vote in. Vote. And vote wisely.
