It seems that Lois Lerner, former Director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), during the Obama-era Administration – allowed groups with the names “Tea Party” and “Patriots” to be targeted for IRS scrutiny and including the people leading those groups. The Trump administration has finally vindicated this scandal victims and Attorney General Jeff Sessions stepped up to the plate and announced yesterday that settlements have now been reached. There are over 400 groups who are involved in this settlement.
From Fox News:
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced early Thursday that the Justice Department had entered into settlements with Tea Party groups whose tax-exempt status was significantly delayed by the IRS dating back to 2013, “based solely on their viewpoint or ideology.” The settlements involve payments to the plaintiffs and an apology from the IRS. Sessions said that groups with names involving “Tea Party” or “Patriots,” or those with specific policy positions concerning government spending, were subject to “inappropriate criteria” to “screen” applications.”
And from CBS News:
“That was wrong. That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive, and it was inappropriate. That’s not how we go about selecting cases,” said Lois Lerner, the head of the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups. “The IRS would like to apologize for that.” Lerner said the additional scrutiny was initiated by lower-level employees working out of Cincinnati, and that the practice was not a product of political bias. She told the Associated Press that high-level officials were not informed of the practice.”
Lois Lerner, sounds a lot like Hillary Clinton. She didn’t know and she was unaware. Typical. It seems, Hillary Clinton’s “BlameNation” tour is rubbing off on other officials who are following her lead of not knowing anything that happens under their watch. Sounds inept.
On Sept 9, 2017 Sessions had dropped charges on Lerner, so she narrowly escaped jail time for her felony. And now, Lerner apologizes and a settlement is reached. See the video below of Sessions refusing to prosecute Lerner, stating a lack of evidence.
