ISIS took the world by storm on Monday when they first claimed responsibility for the Las Vegas massacre, which left over 50 concertgoers dead and hundreds wounded. Authorities immediately responded by stating they believe ISIS’s claims are false, yet haven’t 100% ruled them out.
On Thursday, ISIS doubled down on their claim when they released the latest edition of a new encrypted weekly Al-Naba online magazine and discussed how the terrorist group planned the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. They also claimed in the online magazine that Stephen Paddock “converted to Islam 6 months” before the Las Vegas Massacre. ISIS refers to Paddock as Abu Abdul Barr al-Amriki in the publication, according to Newsweek.
Here is a copy of the publication image that is floating around the internet:
Per Newsweek here is a direct quote from the magazine:
“A soldier of the caliphate attacked a gathering of 22,000 Americans at a concert in the city of Las Vegas, resulting in nearly 60 killed and 600 injured…..Brother Abu Abdul Bar stationed himself in a room on the 32nd floor of a hotel overlooking the concert and opened fire continuously on the crowds using 23 firearms and more than 2,000 bullets and died, may God accept him, after running out of ammunition,” it added.
US Authorities fired back when speaking with Newsweek:
“There is no indication that there is any link whatsoever. They claim a lot of things,” an anonymous U.S. official stated.
Authorities still stand by their claim that at the moment they don’t believe terrorist groups were involved and said ISIS has been known to often make false claims as part of their propaganda. It’s still difficult to not speculate otherwise, considering the attack is similar to other attacks by the group seen around the world over the past few years. They like to target concert venues or other places people congregate in masses.
